The Library Operations Division serves the information needs of state government. The Library Operations units are:

Who is eligible to borrow from the Illinois State Library’s circulating collections?

1. All persons employed by the State of Illinois may apply for an Illinois State Library Regular Borrower's Card and, if approved, may borrow directly from the Illinois State Library's circulating collections and the collections of 76 additional libraries sharing the I-Share universal catalog.
2. Persons with a valid Illinois public library card or retired state employees may apply for an Illinois State Library Courtesy Card and, if approved, may borrow directly from the Illinois State Library’s circulating collections. Materials must be picked up at the Illinois State Library.
3. Any person with a valid library card from one of the state’s other I-Share libraries may borrow directly from the Illinois State Library’s circulating collections.

Library Card application: Fill out and e-mail the applicable library card application. Or, print out the application and send it to Illinois State Library Circulation Desk, 300 South Second Street, Springfield, Illinois 62701 (or via interoffice mail).

• Library card application for state government employees and elected officials.
• Library card application for retired state employees and public library patrons.
• Library card applications can also be completed in person at the Circulation Desk, 2nd Floor. A valid state ID card is requested for state government cards.
